From 1993 to 2019 Karen and I shared the special place that Paul preserved. He was always a gracious and friendly host. Valued sharing wine at sunset and digging steamers an sea clams. He and the place he saved will be missed. Michael Idoine

I'm so saddened to learn of Paul's passing. He was such a good, kind man, always bringing a smile to those around him. For almost a decade, I had the good fortune of living on Corn Hill, spending 2-3 days a week there year-round. Paul always had time to chat for a few minutes or longer and I cherish those times.
     
What I remember most vividly is the relationship Paul had with his dog Timber. The two were inseparable and loved each other. When Paul and I talked, Snowy (my Samoyed) and Timber would play together. One day in January, Timber went missing--it was a bright, freezing cold day--20 below zero. Around noon, Paul and I began to search for Timber in the forest where they'd been hiking. After three hours, there was no sign of Timber. We decided to split up to have double the chance of finding him. Paul was upset--only time I'd ever seen him so--and he asked me if I thought we would find Timber. "I guarantee it--I'm not stopping till he's safe in your arms," I said before I realized it. Two or three hours later, I heard some wimpering--I yelled for Paul (there was no cell phone reception in the woods of Truro). The two of us pushed our way through dense brush until we reached Timber, who was stuck in brush and on a slab of ice. He was so cold and looked near-death. We eventually freed him. Paul worked to care for him--Timber slept by the fireplace, barely moving, and Paul gave him water by hand that entire night. By the next day, Timber could eat a few bites of food from Paul's hand and later in the day finally stood up. Two days later, he was entirely back to normal! A miracle!

I had to leave Corn Hill in 2003. But whenever I returned and saw Paul, he would have a twinkle in his eyes and remind me of the day we saved Timber against all odds. I am at peace knowing that Paul and Timber are roaming the heavens together--I hope Snowy is with them too.  I will keep Paul in my prayers and send my condolences to Paul's family and friends.

So sorry to read about Paul’s passing. I was his neighbor for a bunch of years on 2nd Landing Way in Truro. He was such a great neighbor. Always in great spirits, had the best gardening advice, always puffing on a cigar and great to just sit and chat with. 
A true gentleman .

Dear Marilyn and Debbie,
The news of your Dad’s death so saddens me.
Paul and I have kept in touch over the years, and I was hoping to see him again this summer.
My stay in the “Owl cottage” the summer of ‘76 is a favorite memory of mine!  Indeed, similar to your dad, I “fell in love” with Corn Hill because of my time spent there.  I have told many a friend about the “magic” of Corn Hill!
It is so enchanting …a piece of yesteryear lifestyle with quintessential cottages, nature’s finest…ocean waves, sea salt air, the most beautiful sunsets ever…”especially as seen from the deck your dad built that same summer”.  Yes, Corn Hill is magical !
I have returned there on occasion, to “ say hello” and smell the scents, see the views…always leaving with the same fond sentiments!
The news years ago about Steven’s and Peter’s  deaths, broke my heart, as I am sure it did yours.
My one hope is that they and your dad are 
now all together again “catching up”!
I well recall the four of you that summer, so full of life, wonder, positive spirit! 
 I remember baking bread…promising you all one of my first loaf attempts.  But I had killed 
the yeast so the bread was like a “brick”!  We ate it though, with sliced cheese it actually tasted delightful!
You Marilyn, and I chambermaided at a motel on Rt 6 until you found a dead rat in the tub…you screamed , I sought your whereabouts, and we finished the week never to return.
And you Debbie, your brothers, Rachel, and others…playing “basketball” every evening.
Memories of the front office with many a shell or whalebone on display …I have my own whalebone, and miscellaneous seashells which I still treasure to this day!
In 1985 I brought my husband and young son to visit your dad.  Paul was living in his “summer accommodations” so cleverly designed! He prepared delicious grilled swordfish…the sky twinkling with hundreds of stars, my son sleeping in your Dad’s bed…a magical night!!
