Patricia Elizabeth White, “Pat”, of Harwichport, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on April 18, 2015, exactly five months after the death of her beloved husband of 64 years, William G. White.
Born September 5, 1924 in Dalton, Massachusetts, Pat was the daughter of David M. Brophy and Catherine M. (nee Brennan). She attended Dalton public schools and Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts. She majored in History and played on the basketball team, graduating in 1945. She taught English and History for nearly five years at private girl's schools in the Berkshires. In 1950, she married William G. White of Springfield, Massachusetts where they lived and raised a family for nearly 50 years before retiring to Harwichport and Naples.
A daily communicant and active parishioner of Holy Cross Parish in Springfield, Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich and St. William Church in Naples, Pat gave generously of her time to her church and a variety of charities and services, including The Thrift Shop in Harwichport and Our Lady of the Elms College.
Pat was blessed with a generous and loving disposition, made friends easily, always found the best in people and forever touched the hearts of all those around her with small, gentle acts of kindness. She was an avid tennis player and golfer into her mid eighties. She was also a devoted fan of Notre Dame basketball and football, the New England Patriots and her treasured Boston Red Sox. Above all, she cherished her faith, her family, and her friends.
Pat is survived by her six children: Christopher and his wife Anne, Maureen and her husband Steven Rattner, Tom and his wife Paula, Mark - all of New York City, Tim and his wife Lise of Rye, NY and John Peter and his wife Peggy Galeb of San Francisco, CA. Pat is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, each of whom she cherished dearly.
In the final months of her life she was so grateful to her wonderful caregiver Diane Pinto.
A funeral Mass to celebrate Pat's life will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church on Route 28, West Harwich. Visiting hours will be held before the Mass from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at Doane, Beale and Ames Funeral Home, 260 Route 28 in West Harwich. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts and Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich, Massachusetts.
