HARWICH - Mary Piersall, 86 of Harwich MA passed away on February 13, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Scranton, PA to Harry Teevan Sr., and Agnes Cecelia Reilly; Mary graduated from Coughlin High School and Saint Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Mary married and had nine children. She moved her family from the East coast to the San Fernando Valley where she raised them to love nature; visiting Yosemite National Park and El Capitan Canyon.
In 1967 they moved back to Harwich, MA. Mary did private duty nursing for many patients over the years. She then was employed at St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth, MA as a cook and housekeeper for Monsignor Monroe.
At the time of her retirement, she bought a motorhome and started her adventure alone, around the country. A strong independent woman she traveled around and wintered in Texas. Finally after being stricken by illness, she had to leave the road. She settled back in Harwich to be surrounded by her family and friends. She worked at the Melrose for many years before moving to Pine Oaks Village III in Harwich.
Mary loved puzzles, quilting crocheting, cross stitching, bird watching and spending time with her family and friends around the country. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, in Harwich and was part of the Charismatic Prayer Group, as well as Cursillo, ECHO and the Lay Order of Franciscans.
Mary is survived by her nine children: Eileen M. Scherer, of Dumfries VA; Doreen Moan, and husband William of Brewster, MA; Claire Morris, and husband Craig, of Brewster, MA; James Piersall, Jr. and wife Pamela of Yarmouthport MA; Maura Ann Gage and husband Steve of Barrington, NH; Kathleen Lovinsky, and husband Robert of Harwich, MA; Ann Russo and husband Allen of Watertown, MN; Christopher Piersall of Harwich, MA; and Patricia Piersall of Harwich, MA.
Mary’s sister-in-law, Joan still lives in the family home in PA. Her sister Ann McDade , a retired office manager lives in Clark Summit.
She also leaves 21 grandchildren , 23 great-grandchildren and so very many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents Mary is predeceased by her brother, Harry P. Teevan, Jr. and brother-in-law Paul J. McDade DDS.
Visitation will be held at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home 260 Main Street West Harwich MA 02671 on Monday, February 17 from 3-7PM.
A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of West Harwich MA on Tuesday February 18, 2014 at 10 am. Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
