Born in Arlington MA., the first daughter of Eileen (Carroll) and George I. Kenniston, Eileen attended Arlington schools, graduating from Arlington High School in 1941.
She worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. and during World War II she was fully engaged with the Arlington Rationing Board.
On April 9, 1944 she was married to John W. (Jack) Rooney at the Church of St. James the Greater, Arlington Heights. Subsequent to the end of the World War II she and Jack raised a family of five children, John Paul, Kevin Francis (deceased), Katherine Patricia, David Curtis and Edward Joseph. Her homemaking and Motherly skills were exemplary, reflecting in the growth and devotion of her family. She is greatly missed by all relatives, friends and family.
In 1975, Eileen and Jack took up residence in Dennisport which enabled Eileen to host numerous visits of friends and family, preparing fabulous meals and providing a bed to rest the weary bones after visiting her favorite beaches. She enjoyed many titles, devoted Wife, incredible Mother and Mom, Grandma, Nana, and Great-Grandma, who uniquely touched the lives of those she encountered. The passing years found the family growing up with ten Grandchildren, Amy, Paula, Stephen and Peter Rooney: Ronald, Colleen and Jennifer Dermady: Jennifer Rooney: and Noah and Jacqueline Rooney: and five Great-Grandchildren, Landon and Talan Bradley: Deklan and Samantha Lawlor and Ronald (R.J.) Dermady, all of whom she cherished in her all encompassing generous heart.
Retirement was a busy time for Eileen who volunteered for 25 years at the Holy Trinity Thrift Shop. She was a member of the Woman's Guild and enjoyed participating in the Couples Club. These years permitted enjoying many trips, some organized by friends of the Dennis Seniors, and extensive tours of more than half of the United States and the Canadian Provinces, to Ireland, and much of Europe, the Caribbean area and her favorite Island, Bermuda. Through the years she developed a passion for slot machines resulting in many visits to Atlantic City, the Connecticut Casinos and Las Vegas.
