Charles "The Golfer" Mooney 88, of Harwichport passed away Friday at the VA in Brockton. He was the husband of the late Eugenia (Owens) Mooney. Born in Boston, he grew up and was educated in Brookline. Mr. Mooney was in the 45th Infantry Division of the United States Army in World War II. He received three purple hearts and a bronze star. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Milton. Mr. Mooney continued with the postal service in South Carolina where he initiated the substance abuse program for employees. Upon retirement he moved to Harwich were he enjoyed playing golf at the Cranberry Valley Golf Course.
Mr. Mooney was known for his humor, bubbling personality and love for life. Charlie was a warm and caring man who will be truly missed by all. Mr. Mooney is survived by his daughter Stephanie (Rae) Church of West Bridgewater, two grandchildren Amanda Church of West Bridgewater, Andrew Church and his wife Erin Church of Bridgewater, niece Marie Caruso and husband Tom Caruso of Holden, niece Christine Mooney of Arlington and four great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home 260 Main St W. Harwich on Thursday Aug 2, 2012 from 9:30am to 11am followed by a Prayer Service.
