Wynanda Ann Ferguson, 91, passed away October 16, 2024. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday October 22, 2024, at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines. A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Wynanda was born July 21, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa to Eleanora (Jansen) and Arthur Whipple. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Dale Ferguson and settled in West Des Moines. She owned and operated Wimpy’s Ceramics where she taught ceramics to students of all ages for 54 years. She won many blue ribbons at the State Fair for her own work. She was a tireless volunteer for Sacred Heart Church, the Jordan House and the West Des Moines Women’s Club (where she was past president). She received Citizen of the Year honors with the “cleaning ladies” of the Jordan house in 2015. Wynanda was an extraordinary human being with a large heart and compassion for everyone. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her loving family including her three children, James (Karen) Ferguson, Dr. Polly Ferguson (Kirk Banks), and David (Julie) Ferguson; six grandchildren, Mallory Noble and Samantha Ruiz, Nile and Evan Banks, and Connor and Lyndee Ferguson; and five great grandchildren, Giovanni, Olive, Coralynn, George and Isla; her brother, Joel (Judy) Whipple and 16 nieces and nephews. She was preceded by death by her loving husband, Dale Ferguson; her parents; sister, Lucille (Ernest) Bianco; and brother, Arthur (Beverly) Whipple, Jr.
Memorial donations may be directed to Sacred Heart Church or to the Jordan House, both in West Des Moines.
