Tyann Sandie, 66 of Urbandale, Iowa fought a courageous, 8-year battle. She finished her fight and kept her faith. God called her home on February 24, 2023. Tyann was born on June 17, 1956, in Burnet, Texas to Coleman and Nita Sons. The family will honor her when the snow melts and the flowers have bloomed, on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 11 am- 3 pm at the Giovannetti Shelter in Walker Johnston Park, in Urbandale, Iowa.
Tyann grew up in Burnet, Texas, and eventually moved to San Antonio, where she graduated from Winston Churchill High School in 1974. She later relocated to Iowa and fell in love with the state, so much so, that she never wanted to live anywhere else. You couldn’t find a bigger Iowa Hawkeye Football fan than Tyann. Everyone knew not to call her when the Iowa Hawkeyes were playing. She was a season ticket holder and enjoyed a good tailgate party. Tyann married Tom Sandie in August of 1980 and was married for 42 years. Tyann’s pride and joy was her son, Eric, and he was the love of her life. She started working for Charles Gabus Ford in April of 1976 and retired in May of 2022 after 46 years. She had big plans after retirement, but they always say, if you want to make God laugh tell him your plans. God had bigger and better plans for her.
Tyann had a passion for cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She was so excited when she entered several of her famous dishes into the Iowa State Fair. She won numerous ribbons, and everyone would say they can feel the love in her cooking. She would, also, make the most amazing sugar cookies and decorate them with pride. Tyann loved The 4th of July and Christmas and would go all out decorating for the occasions. She had so much joy planning and hosting her annual 4th of July party, that she would spend hours on Pinterest getting ideas.
Tyann was a very talented crafter and enjoyed spending time in her crafting room. She loved the hobby so much that she turned it into a small business. She named her business “Up All Night” because that was when she would get her amazing ideas. Tyann’s peaceful spaces were inside several parks near her home. She spent many years walking her Golden Retrievers there. She loved all her dogs, and they held a special place in her heart.
Being so full of life, Tyann would light up a room when she walked in and always had a smile on her face. Her family and friends loved her so much. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and friend. Tyann will be greatly missed by all those she leaves behind, but we know we will see her again. She will be waiting for her family and friends in Heaven.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Coleman Sons and Nita Ginger. Tyann is survived by her husband, Tom; son, Eric (Chicago, IL); sister, Debbie Reed (Tyler, TX); brother Guy Sons and wife, Trisha (Oxford Junction, IA). Great uncle C.M. Sparkman and wife Phyllis (Beaumont, CA); great aunt Kay Kinchen and husband Al (Fredericksburg, TX); several nieces, nephews, and cousins; stepdaughter, Kelie Stegh (West Des Moines, IA) and husband Kyle, and her granddaughters Maren and CJ.
