Shirley Minetta Larson, 93, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 from Lewy Body Dementia at Urbandale Healthcare Center. A graveside memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.
Shirley was born November 20, 1923 in Webster City, IA to Ralph and Sadie (Carpenter) Woodruff. She was a homemaker who worked in the insurance industry for a number of years. Shirley became her husband’s caretaker until his death in 1993. She was a member of Forest Avenue Baptist Church before becoming a member at First Baptist Church in Johnston. Shirley was an avid gardener who loved getting together with her lady friends from church.
She is survived by her son, Larry (Nikki) Larson of Urbandale and daughter, Diane Carr of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Adam and Brett Larson, Lukas Magnusson, and Allen Larson; two great-grandchildren; and step-brother, Dr. Lon Woodruff. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, Edward Larson; son, Dennis Larson; sister, Dorothy Grimes; and brother, Waldo Woodruff.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or First Baptist Church in Johnston.
