Ron Bartlett, 84, died, Saturday, July 16 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the DMACC Ankeny Campus FFA Enrichment Center (1055 SW Prairie Trail Parkway) adjoining the DMACC Ankeny Campus. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Ron was born June 16, 1927, the son of Albert and Viola Bartlett of Magnet, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm in Cedar County Nebraska, where he attended school and at the age of 18 was inducted into the Army Medical Corp and became a veteran of WWII. After his discharge, he returned to the family farm and was later employed by the Army, Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington, and attended Business College.
He married Lois Ardell Ayers of Seattle, Washington, December 23, 1949, at Sedro Woolley, Washington. Ron and Lois returned to Nebraska in early 1950, farming there four years before moving to Marshalltown, Iowa and Rockwell City, Iowa where they farmed and fed cattle until 1972 when Ron was employed by the Iowa Farm Bureau Commodity Division as a cattle buyer until his retirement. He worked a few years at McLaren’s Funeral Home in West Des Moines after his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Lois; three sons, Mike of Huxley, Iowa, Gary (Tracy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Randy (Gloria) of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Dalton Bartlett of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters, Dwyla (Fred) Whaley of Norfolk, Nebraska and Karolyn (Norman) Kleeb of O’Neill, Nebraska; and many friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
At an early age, Ron accepted the teachings of Jesus Christ and chose Christian Fellowship as his way of life. He greatly enjoyed family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel.
