Robert Johnson, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Fountain West Health Center in West Des Moines. A Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at West Des Moines Christian Church with interment at Resthaven Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Bob was born January 30, 1924 in Fort Dodge, IA to Arthur and Mabel (Kentoff) Johnson. He was a manager for Sunbeam in Des Moines and worked for Electronic Engineering after retirement. Bob was a WWII Army Veteran. He was a Ball Turret Gunner in England and flew 30 missions on a B17. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School and attended Drake University. Bob graduated from the University of Iowa and was on a championship wrestling team. He was a lifelong avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Bob was a member of West Des Moines Christian Church and he enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends at the church.

Bob is survived by his four children, Dee (Brad) Johnson of Los Gatos, CA, Christine Johnson of Denver, CO, Gary Hayward of Ankeny and Linda (Gary) Porth of Waukee; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta Johnson in 1969; second wife, Beatrice Johnson in 2011 and two brothers, Arthur and Richard Johnson.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the West Des Moines Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Hospice or the West Des Moines Christian Church.
