Dr. Robert Joseph Foley,80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday, July 12, 2013 in Colorado Springs, CO. Dr. Foley was born in Wilton Junction, IA, September 26, 1932, the second of four children born to the late Donald P. Foley and Leone E. Foley.
He married the love of his life, Justine, in April of 1953 after graduating from Muscatine High School in 1950. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 aboard the submarine USS Dace. He went on to complete his undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Iowa in 1960. He graduated from the University of Iowa School of Medicine in 1965 where he also completed his residency.
Dr. Foley completed his Internship at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA in 1966 before entering into private practice as a general family practitioner. Dr. Foley practiced medicine in Des Moines, IA, for 30 years.
Dr. Foley retired and enjoyed time with his wife, Justine, family and friends, living on Leech Lake in northern Minnesota, in the Poudre Canyon in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Bodega Bay in northern California, and finally Colorado Springs, Co.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Justine L. Foley; loving children, Robert J. Foley II of Walker, MN; Michelle A. Foley of San Francisco, CA; Michael J. Foley of Scottsdale, AZ; Deborah K. Gibson of Clive, IA, David W. Foley of Colorado Springs, CO; Elizabeth A. Foley of Chicago, IL; precious grandchildren; Bobby III, Erica, Allie, Bryan, Danny, Julie, Molly, Stephanie, Ryan, Kayla, and Maddie; a great granddaughter Anna; a loving sister, Marcia Jensen of Ridgecrest, CA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of cherished friends.
Dr. Foley was preceded in death by his parents, Donald P. Foley and Leone E. Foley; sister, Mary A. Lamb; and a brother, Donald E. Foley.
A Celebration of Life will be 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at McLaren’s Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA or Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, CO.
