Ankeny
Rex G. Metheny, 92, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel. A private family burial with military honors will be held on Thursday at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Rex was born August 25, 1922 in Menlo, Iowa the son of John and Mary (Galvin) Metheny. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and lived most of his life in West Des Moines until moving to Ankeny 10 years ago. He worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber for 25 years and then retired from the City of West Des Moines. Rex was a longtime member of the West Des Moines V.F.W. Post 8879.
He is survived by two children, son, Jim (Janet) Metheny of Ankeny and daughter, Charlene (Marvin) Schneider of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, John, Debra, Susan, Pamela, Jimmy and Julie; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Rex was preceded in death by his wife, of 40 years, Helen; his parents; and four siblings, Max, John, Elloween and Margaret.
