Phyllis was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa on January 19, 1939 to Lester and Jesse (James) Washburn. She grew up on the family farm and was the only child Phyllis would ride her horse to the country school and graduated from Mount Ayr High in 1957 as salutatorian. She graduated from Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. Phyllis worked at Des Moines General Hospital, Mercy, and retired from Broadlawns in the obstetrics caring for newborns. She married David Reynolds in 1959 and later Dave Willer.
With either her friends, sons, or grandchildren, she traveled to all the continents except Antarctica. She shared that passion with her grandchildren treating Eleanor to Paris and Sam on an Alaskan cruise. She often said Paris was her favorite. Phyllis had a passion for her cats and loved to tell stories about them.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Eleanor and Sam Reynolds; and daughter-in law, Amy Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her three sons, Don, Gary, and Todd; and husband, Dave Willer.
Memorial contributions can be made to Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
