Michael Dennis Harrigan was born January 13, 1949, Des Moines, Iowa, to parents James and Ruth Harrigan. After battling lung and esophageal cancers for 9 years, he passed away on November 22, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Mike graduated from North High in 1967. He was drafted into the Army during Vietnam. He attained the rank of sergeant, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He worked in the small engine repair shop at Sears and married Diane Steele, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years of marriage.
Mike loved drag racing, working on his ‘55 Chevy Bel-Air hardtop, eating at the Chili King, and was passionate about grilling on his wood-fired smoker. Mike had a great sense of humor; he never forgot a joke, could fix anything and was always willing to help others. He loved cats, spotting bald eagles, and listening for owls.
Mike is survived by his wife Diane; daughter, Kelley (Paul) Molitor; sons, Jeff (Mary) and Kyle (Lauren Link) Harrigan, and grandchildren, Margaret, Anna, and Joseph Harrigan, and Cassandra and Abigail Molitor. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dwight. Mike wanted to extend his thanks to his longtime physician Dr. Scott Honsey. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the World Wildlife Federation, especially for the preservation of the endangered snow leopard.
