Matthew was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, on the family farm. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Vera Hansen. He is survived by his sister, Lorinda. His upbringing developed a foundation of family, strong work ethic, and love for the outdoors. After graduating from West High School in 1984, he furthered his education at Iowa State University where he developed his intense loyalty to all things Cyclones and met the love of his life, Cimberly.
Cimberly was born in Oskaloosa and raised in Pella, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents Cornelious and Esther Tromp and brother Ned. She is survived by her brothers Harv and Kenny, and her sisters Marva, Carol, Sal and Jayne. Cimberly came from a large family. She was most proud of her family, which was the center of her life. In her younger years, Cimberly enjoyed picking up the tennis racket and recently started playing pickleball with Matthew. She graduated from Pella High School in 1985 and went to Iowa State University where she met and fell in love with Matt.
After college, Matthew and Cimberly built their lives in the Des Moines area. Starting in Waukee where they joined Waukee Christian Church and made many dear friendships. They moved into their first home in Johnston and eventually settled in Urbandale when Cassie joined the family. They took their kids on annual camping trips from the Grand Canyon to Niagara Falls and everywhere in between. Later life would bless them with grandchildren, and they would frequently be on the road visiting one of their four children or cruising around the world.
Matthew and Cimberly had a deep love of God and their family. They are survived by their 4 children Gerrit and his wife Kim, Joshua and his wife Libby, Jordan and his wife Prinsa, and Cassie; and their loving grandchildren, William, Malachi, Esther, and Arden.
