Mary Hafner, 99, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. A Mausoleum service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at Resthaven in West Des Moines.
Mary was born June 3, 1917 in Chicago, IL to Bob and Irene (Lennon) Schmidt. She enjoyed cooking and sewing. Mary had a special goose named Amy which she dressed weekly and entertained the residents at McAuley Terrace in Johnston.
Mary is survived by her three grandchildren, Laura Slavin of Johnston, Karl and Kurt Hafner of Chicago, IL; and three great-grandchildren, Michael Slavin of Grimes, Jackson Hafner of CO and Vanessa Hafner of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Hafner; daughter, Gail Irene Pompeii; and son, William C. Hafner.
