Marcelyn Joyce Hill, 93, died on August 22, 2022, at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Hospital.
Marcy was born to Kemper and Doris (Viland) Carnahan on January 28, 1929 on her Uncle Arfin & Auntie Ruby’s (who she shared a birthday with) farm in Polk County near Huxley, IA, just one mile south of the Palestine Church, on the East side of the road. Marcy's parents divorced and Doris remarried Ercel Willett.
She started school in Des Moines, IA, attending Windsor School for Kindergarten and 1st grade, West Des Moines School for 2nd and part of 3rd grade, and Frisbie in Des Moines from 3rd through 6th grade. Marcy graduated from Roosevelt High School.
In her early adult life, Marcy worked at Bankers Life and married Gene Hill on April 18th, 1948 at West Des Moines Christian Church.
Marcy was a member and held positions in many different organizations, including Past Noble Grand of Amaryllis Rebekah Lodge #81, Past Chief Matriarch of Ladies Encampment Auxiliary #10, Decoration of Chivalry member, and a member of the Polk County Historical Society.
Some of her proudest family moments were seeing her children grow up to be so thoughtful to their parents.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gene and daughters Kerry and Nancy. Marcy is survived by her son, Larry (Penny); daughter, Pamela Vondra; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
