Lorraine Helen Hines, 97, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 at Westhaven Community in Boone. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Lorraine was born January 25, 1926 on a farm near Plainfield, IA to Ewald and Anna (Schukar) Kahle and graduated from Waverly High School. Lorraine moved to Des Moines and worked in the business office at Fort Des Moines. She married Gerald Henry Fankhauser and after their divorce she later married Harold W. Hines. Lorraine then worked as an administrative secretary for Federal Home Loan Bank. She loved bowling and acquired many trophies. She served as the Vice President and Treasurer of the Women's Iowa Bowling Congress. Lorraine was a member of the American Philatelic Society (stamp collecting) and displayed her musical talents by playing many different instruments. She also worked on various crafts and loved baking tasty treats.
Lorraine is survived by two children, Lou Ann Hanson and Brian Hines; five grandchildren, Carson, Shelby, Will, Jennifer and Stephanie; six great-grandchildren, Ashlee Agan, Drew Agan, Christian Mcasland, Levi Hollingshead, Jordan Hollingshead, Isaac Brandel; and five great-great-grandchildren, Axel, Avery, Athena, Eden and Aphrodite “Phro”. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Larry; and daughter-in-law, Patty Hines.
Memorials may be directed to Suncrest Hospice or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny.
