Linda Kay Shoemaker, 69, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 9, 2017. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday.
Linda was born on April 14, 1947 in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Hubert L. and Clara M. (LeJeune) Missildine. She graduated from Hampton Community School District in 1965 and received her nursing degree from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in 1969. On June 16, 1979 she married Marvin Shoemaker.
Linda worked for Iowa Methodist Medical Center for over 30 years. She was a RN in the emergency room where later she became the manager of the adult ER. Linda was a nurse at heart who touched so many people and was always the go to for the family. After retirement she taught nursing at DMACC. Linda enjoyed walking and spending time with her grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin; son, Jeffrey (Shelley) Shoemaker; daughter, Shelby (Tommy) Rounds; five grandchildren, Lizzie, Koby, Tommy, Kaleah and Lily; one great-grandson, Liam; brother, Ronald Missildine; sister, Marsha (Terry) Heilskov; and many nieces and nephews. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Jane (Johnson) Missildine.
