Lewis Cornett, 59, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Mercy Hospital. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Friday at Eternity Church in Clive.
Lewis was born in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Dorothy and Lewis Cornett, Sr. He attended Tech High School until his senior year when he graduated from Adel High School. He lived in northwest Indiana for 19 years where he worked for Amoco Oil for many years before retiring due to his health. While in Indiana he was a member of the Calumet Ridge Moose Family Center L.O.T.M. #1258 where he served as governor and earned his fellowship degree. He volunteered at Calumet Ridge Moose Lodge where he enjoyed cooking, calling Bingo and DJ’ing. Lewis loved auto racing, all sports, and fishing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, Moose family, friends and grandkids. He returned to the Des Moines area in 2014 to be closer to his family and began volunteering at Jones Auto Repair.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; six children, Jeremy (Sarah) Cornett, Jason Cornett, Jenifer (Eric) Abbey, Raymond Cornett, Nikke Cornett, and Amber (Brenton) Strauch; two adopted daughters, Queen Hardin and Danielle Wilson; seven grandchildren, Casey, Noah, Alexandra, Samantha, Elizabeth, Annika and Christian; three adopted grandchildren, Joel, A.J., and Alex; two sisters, Pam (Kirk) Nielsen and Janet (Kevin) Halfpop; two brothers, Terry (Vicki) Cornett and Rick (Angie) Cornett; and sister-in-law, Linda (Dale) Jones. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, and his aunt Garnet and three uncles.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines, Iowa and from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at Eternity Church. Memorial contributions may be given to Moose Heart.
