Laura E. Murillo, 84, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Laura was born on March 31, 1929 in Des Moines to William David and Ethel Brooks. She also attended East High School. Laura’s hobbies included the Legion of Mary and Sacred Heart Women’s Guild. She enjoyed helping others, the annual family fishing trip and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Laura is survived by her husband of 62 years, Louis; five children, Janice (Richard) Gooden, John (Janet) Murillo, Carmen Locke (Don Kenney) and Tone Murillo; twelve grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Hanlin; and two daughters-in-law, Bertha and Carmen Murillo.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Eddie and Michael; grandchildren, Wm. David, Eric and Melissa Murillo; parents; and siblings, Gaylord, Richard, Helen, Betty, and William.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Parish Hall at Sacred Heart with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for future designation.
