Kenneth Fredrick Finck passed away at age 85 on October 22, 2011. He was born in Fontanelle, Iowa on October 16, 1926. Visitation will be at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel at 801 - 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 10 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m., followed by a private entombment for the immediate family.
Ken grew up in the Nevinville, Orient, and Richland Township vicinity, where he attended grade and high school. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, a member of the Golden “K” Kiwanis Club, and the American Legion. He graduated from Simpson College in 1949. He returned to teach and coach athletic teams at Richland Township School in Orient, Iowa and then at Huxley High School. Ken played baseball with Iowa teams in Greenfield, Creston, Red Oak, Marshall, Minnesota and at Quantico, Virginia while in the Marine Corps.
Ken was employed in the insurance industry for 37 years and held a CPCU designation. In 1991, Ken retired from Allied Mutual Insurance Company. Ken “Toby” was inducted into the Simpson College Baseball Hall of Fame in October of 2005. He enjoyed playing golf and all sporting activities. He was especially active and interested in baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Ken was also an active member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church
Ken is survived by his wife, Doris of 60 years; son, Kevin (Suzanne) of Robins, Iowa; daughter, Karen Van Drasek (Joe) of West Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons, Darren Van Drasek (Wendy) and Brian Van Drasek; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Buechler (Arlene) and Eugene Buechler (Marjorie) and nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Emma Finck and brother, Frank Finck
