Kathy M. Barakat

Kathryn Margaret Barakat, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19th with her family by her side in Clive, Iowa. She was born to Floyd and Geraldyne Turner in Norfolk, VA on August 10th, 1945. She grew up in Des Moines, IA, and attended East High School.

Kathy met the love of her life, John Barakat when she was fifteen years old. They were married on August 6th, 1965. They had two daughters, Shannan and Trisha. Kathy enjoyed traveling, hosting parties, shopping, reading, and most of all spending time with her family, especially her beloved granddaughter, Alexa.

The devastation of dementia gradually broke her presence but couldn’t take her gentle spirit. She lit up the room with her beautiful smile and vibrant personality. Kathy had a caring and generous heart and would help anyone in need. She cherished her family more than anything.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband John. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Shannan (Stacey Fletcher) and Trisha (Rob Christiansen), and her granddaughter Alexa Christiansen.

Kathy’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Heartland Hospice team for their unwavering support over the last ten months.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are provided by McLarens Resthaven Chapel and Cemetery.
