Kathryn A. “Katy” Kinley, 56, was tragically killed in an auto accident on the south side of Des Moines on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Another driver was attempting to pass cars when her vehicle was struck head on, ending her life on impact, and leaving her 13 year old grandson in critical condition at a local hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, IA 50315. Visitation with the family will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Katy was born on January 10, 1961 in Des Moines, IA to George R. and Carolyn (Pritchard) Kinley. Katy will be remembered for her extremely loving and generous heart. She had a soft spot for any kind of human suffering, and would go out of her way to help anyone in need. Katy had a vibrant, colorful personality that lit up a room. She was the life of every gathering, and was well known for her wonderful sense of humor.
Katy loved to surprise others by taking them out for meals and buying special gifts for her grandchildren. When her first grandchild Domenik was young, she would frequently give him $1 bills. Unable to say her name yet, her grandson would say "Money" and that started her well known nickname of "Grandma Money" which she adored. Her Catholic faith was extremely important to her, and she loved meeting her father on Sundays at Christ the King Church and attending Mass and lighting candles. She also loved praying the Rosary daily. Katy loved life and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and especially with her grandson, Domenik, along with her other four grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Katy is survived by her parents, George and Carolyn Kinley; two children, Kassie and Jimmie (Jennie); sister, Elizabeth (Gary); two brothers, Raymond (Michel) and Frank (Laura); and grandchildren, Domenik, Kaden, Davontae, Alexia, and Vinnie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her children to help fund the care of her grandson, Kaden, who remains in critical condition.
