John Middleton Seago, 95, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2023 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery.
John was born June 10, 1927 to Bessie (Gibson) and George Seago Sr. in Augusta, GA. He served in the Military Police in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he married Frances Dunaway on June 19, 1949 in Augusta, GA. John graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Entomology. He then worked for the CDC in Atlanta, GA in the Public Health Division. Upon leaving the CDC, John worked at Massey Ferguson as the General Finance Manager for 39 years, retiring in 1992. John enjoyed reading, woodworking, photography, gardening, and attending school and sports activities of his grandchildren. He was also a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and enjoyed watching their sports.
John is survived by his wife of 73 years, Frances of Haverhill; three children, Susan Burney of Des Moines, Mike (Mary) Seago of Gower, MO, and Nancy (Terry) Ridout of Marshalltown, IA; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Seago of Mingo, IA; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Seago of Conyers, GA and Richard Seago of Gracewood, GA; and sister, Sarah Seago of Gracewood, GA. He was preceded in death by his son Clyde in 2022 and grandson, Robert Burney in 1989.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Des Moines.
