John Halsted passed away on March 24, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. John was born and raised in Des Moines. After serving in the Vietnam War, John married Mary Murphy and together they raised one daughter, Kristy.
John lived a simple life and enjoyed nothing more than sharing a cold beer with good friends. He loved spending time outdoors camping, canoeing, fishing and golfing. John is remembered for his distinct sense of humor and for being the type of guy who had a taxidermied alligator in his garage for no apparent reason.
John leaves behind his daughter Kristy (Robert) Hoelscher; three grandkids; his sister Jean Schmacker; brothers Dennis (Renee) Halsted and Jim Halsted; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Murphy) Halsted, his brother Robert Halsted, his parents John “Jack” and Naomi Halsted, his brother-in-law Michael Murphy and his parents-in-law Edmond and Connie Murphy.
