James L. Major, 62, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at his home in West Des Moines. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at McLaren’s Chapel followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
James was born July 23, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a car salesman, graduated from Monmouth College in Monmouth, IL and attended Drake University. James was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis, Mason’s, Wakonda Club, Drake Chapter of SAE, Central Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church where he was involved with the Builder’s Sunday School class. He was very active with the Za Ga Zig Shrine Chapter, Iowa Shrine Bowl and he played the trumpet in the Shrine Band. James enjoyed golfing, dancing, flowers, gardening, landscaping and working with the Republican Party of Iowa.
James is survived by his brother, Charles (Cindy) Major of East Moline, IL; two nephews, Dr. Ryan (Dr. Rachel) Major of Crystal, MN and Christopher Major of Iowa City, IA; two great nephews, John (Jack) and Henry Major and one great niece, Madeline Major. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan and Lorraine (Bruggen) Major and aunt, Phyllis Bruggen.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
