James (Jim) Rooney

James (Jim) Rooney, 82, of Waukee, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 25, 2015, with family present. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McLaren’s Chapel with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Jim was born September 20, 1932 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Mary (Quigley) Rooney. He graduated from DePaul University in Chicago in 1956. Jim was married to Alice Doherty at St. Bride’s Catholic Church in Chicago on June 15, 1957. He was a Systems Analyst for IBM, Vice President for Massey Ferguson, ATS Supervisor at the Des Moines International Airport and a Caretaker for St. Paul Catholic Church in Evansville, WI. Jim was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed going to daily Mass and Bible studies at Church, snow skiing, playing tennis, watching Notre Dame football and the Chicago Bears and spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his wife, Alice Rooney of Waukee; six children, Patrick (Lisa) Rooney of Indianapolis, IN, Joe (Lori) Rooney of Alpharetta, GA, Sharon (Bill) Mueksch of West Des Moines, Rick Rooney of Portland, OR, Timothy (Cathy) Rooney of Evansville, WI and Mary (Jeff) Rooney-Corcoran of Reno, NV; fourteen grandchildren, Patrick, Jr (Denise), Sean (Morgan), James, Collin, Brendan (Jordan), Alli, Kaelyn, Ryan, Haley, Nick, Noah, Jonathan, Tommy and Kate; four great-grandchildren, Jack, Charlie, Henry and Maddox; brother, Michael (Jan) Rooney of Kansas City, KS and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Gerard Rooney; two sisters, Patti Rooney and Mari-Anne Sheridan; brother, Jack Rooney.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in West Des Moines.
