Gary Hoshaw, 77, passed away surrounded by his family at his home in West Des Moines. Per his wishes he was cremated and a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Gary was born September 7, 1937 to Harvey and Pearl Hoshaw in Stratford, IA. He married Karen Umsted on December 28, 1956. Gary served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1962 and moved to Chicago where he went to school to be an electrician. Gary and Karen then moved back to Des Moines in 1961 where he worked for Biermann Electric and later started Hoshaw Electric. He was a great friend, father, and supporter of his family and friends. Gary was a compassionate person who would put others first and come to the rescue whenever and wherever needed.
Gary is survived by his wife, Karen; son, Michael (LeeAnn) and their children, Steven and Hillary; daughter, Krista (Jeff) and their children, Jake, Matthew, Mikell and Sydney (Chris) and their kids Brody and Blake; daughter, Julie (Michael) and their children, Raven, Jaedyn and Endy; sisters, Maxine Silvey and Carolyn Iles; and brother, Roger. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Francis, Dean and Bill; sisters, Barbara Hoshaw and Shirley Clausen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Dale Swift Philanthropic Fund, 1600 NE 44th Ave. 50313, for cancer patient’s expenses.
