Fred "Buck" Blakley, age 77, of Clio, Iowa passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 2 - 4:30 p.m. at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel with a time of sharing at 4:30 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will take place on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, Iowa.
Buck was born January 15, 1947 to John and Dorothy (Vance) Blakley in Harold, Iowa (Camp Dodge area). Growing up, he loved to explore the rural countryside and walking Beaver Creek. He graduated from Johnston High School in 1965 and from there became a career guardsmen in the United States Army National Guard retiring in 1998. Buck was very proud of his time in the military and the education he received both while enlisted and as a civilian. He was a jack of all trades and like to keep busy doing various different things. After retirement this allowed him to enjoy things like fishing, watching old western movies, camping, riding his favorite house, or being the Cribbage Captain.
Buck was a family man, and loved spending time with the kids. He too was a kid at heart with his ornery ways playing tricks on the grandkids just to see them laugh. His sense of humor was a trait everyone loved and he had the knack to keep life easy going in the later years. He kept to his daily routine and doing his own thing. Enjoying the comfort of his own was something he cherished. Buck had quite the sweet tooth for candy and could be seen enjoying a Pepsi and a Snickers.
Buck was extremely proud of his accomplishments and taking care of them. Having his family proud of him was as important to him, as his family wanting him proud of them. He may have had a rough exterior but he has a huge heart for kids and an incredible soft spot for animals. Buck is loved and will be missed.
Left to cherish his memories, include his daughters, Jeri (Jason) Hopkins, Tammy Beyerhelm, Laura Kay Blakley-McKenna, Nola (Jim) Olson, and Cindy (Ron) Marker; grandchildren, Jordyn Louise, Devon, Kyle, Christine, Catherine, Raymond, Amber, Ava, Grace and Harlo; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Natoma Albert, and Ramona Crabtree; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Marjorie Bennethum and Madeline Spooner; brothers, Charles, Frank, and Steve; and baby sister, Dixie.
Memorial contributions may be directed to a local animal shelter of your choosing in memory of Fred "Buck" Blakley.
