

Floyd was born on August 31, 1923 in Elgin, Nebraska to Samuel and Kathryn Smith. Leaving his home in Nebraska to enlist, Floyd served honorably in the Army during WWII throughout Europe.
He attended the University of Nebraska and remained an avid Cornhusker fan throughout his life.
Floyd married Juel Vera Baum on September 15, 1947, and together they raised a family of six children in Sioux City and Des Moines, Iowa.
He retired from Younkers as Merchandise Manager, Store for Homes in 1985. Floyd loved to golf and travel, especially to Arizona during the cold Iowa winters. He was a sports enthusiast, enjoyed singing tenor in the Sacred Heart choir, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Juel Vera, five children, Sandra, Alan (Tracy), Kathy, Sharon and James (Barb), Jerald Evans, four grandchildren, Jason, Nikole, Sam and Theo, two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Mckenna, two brothers, Leonard Loehr and Father Robert Smith and a sister, Helen Marie Neukirch and many nephews and nieces. Floyd was preceded in death by his sisters Tarsilla and Evelyn, his eldest son Gregory and grandson Joshua.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, August 20, 2012, 11 a.m. Graveside services will take place at St. Boniface Cemetery in Stuart, Nebraska on August 22, 2 p.m.
