Eleanor D. Hart died peacefully at Parkridge Care Center in Pleasant Hill, IA on Thursday, December 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Eleanor (Witkowski) Hart was born in 1921 in Chicago, IL. She married Walter T. Hart in May of 1945 and they eventually made their home in West Des Moines, IA. During her early years, she worked for the Illinois Central Railroad and for the University of Iowa Highlanders.
While raising five children in West Des Moines, she volunteered at Drake University Women’s Center and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church Guild. Her cross-stitching was featured in Better Homes and Garden magazine. She was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast and loved dancing.
Eleanor is survived by her husband, Walter; five children, Elizabeth, Michael, Emily, David and Charles; ten grandchildren who loved her very much as she did them and brother, John Witkowski.
