

Duane “Mac” McCloskey, 88, passed away peacefully at UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center on January 5, 2025 with his son by his side. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2025 at McLaren’s.
Mac was born September 15, 1936 in Muscatine, IA to Bill and Virginia (Redman) McCloskey. He graduated from Valley High School in 1954 and went to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. After a short time in California, he was assigned to the 1009 Special Weapons Squadron in Washington D.C. for 3 ½ years. While stationed there he met his wife, Helen Bosel of Lisbon, OH. They had 45 years together before her passing in 2002. Mac retired in 1992 from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, and retired again in 2015 from the City of West Des Moines as a courier. He liked old cars and trucks, swap meets, garage sales, and all the casinos from Clive to Yuma, AZ, where he spent the winter months for many years. Mac was a member of the American Legion Post 663 in Urbandale, IA, The Plaids, Dads Square Dance Club, and loved spending time with his two grandchildren.
Mac is survived by his son, Doug (Carin) McCloskey of Runnells, IA; grandson, Taylor of Omaha, NE; granddaughter, Rachel of Circle Pines, MN; brother, George (Maryann) McCloskey of Norway, IA; sister, Donna (Fred) Smith of Waukee, IA; sister-in-law, Kathy Hartman of Lisbon, OH; and special friend, square dancing partner, and travel companion, Dianne Barkley of West Des Moines.
