Dorothy Lea Woodworth Quade, 82, died September 12, 2010. She died unexpectedly of natural causes at her recent residence in Mooresville, NC.
Dorothy was born October 25, 1927 in Lakota, Iowa the daughter of Elbert and Erma Woodworth. She attended school through eighth grade in Lakota when her family relocated to Manson, Iowa where she lived and finished High School.
She graduated from the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught school in Rolfe, Iowa until she married her high school sweetheart, Derwood Quade, in June 1950. They resided in Ames until Derwood’s job took them to the Panama Canal Zone for 3 years. They moved back to Iowa in 1954 where she resided until recently in West Des Moines.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons: Kurt (Cathy) of Mooresville, NC and Mark (Kathy) of Corpus Christi, TX; three granddaughters: Leslie (Russ) Zimprich of Franklin, TN, Stacie (Michael) Daughenbaugh of Des Moines, IA, and Jennifer (James) Farrell of Orlando, FL; five great-grandchildren: Matthew, Abigail and Jackson Zimprich, and Emily and Joseph Daughenbaugh; her surviving sister Mary Sue Keating of Eugene, OR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her faithful companion, Louis the cat. She was preceded in death by her infant son, mother and father, sister Patricia (Frank) Locke and her devoted husband of 50 years, Derwood.
Her favorite pastimes were traveling the globe with her sister and husband, and knitting. She was a longtime member of P.E.O.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel, West Des Moines. The family will greet friends and relatives at 1:00pm. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
