Dolores June Wacker, 90, passed away February 20, 2022. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines. Burial will take place at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland, Maine at a later date.
Dolores was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 22, 1931, the child of Julian Wacker and Lucy Tudder. She would be raised by her mother in Louisville, Kentucky. Dolores married Warren Mahan in 1954 and lived in Pensacola, Florida, while Warren was in the Marine Corps. There she gave birth to Donna (1956) and Karen (1958). Her third child, Mitchell, would be born in Louisville in 1961. The family moved to Natick, Massachusetts, around 1964, then to the Portland, Maine area around 1972. After her divorce, around 1974, she became employed, mostly with the State of Maine. She moved to the Des Moines, Iowa, area around 2000, where she lived for about a decade with her son, Mitchell, and his family before moving to a retirement home, assisted living home, and a skilled nursing home.
Dolores is survived by her sister, Joyce; children, Mitchell Mahan and Karen Genest; grandchildren, Hannah Armstrong, Lydia Mahan, Alexander Mahan and Mark Genest; and great grandchildren, Sebastian and Micaela Armstrong.
Dolores was a nurturing mother and a kind grandmother. In addition to her family she will be missed by friends at Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church and Westkirk Presbyterian Church.
