Deborah Lou Casey-Olmstead, 71, passed away peacefully in her husband’s arms, surrounded by her daughters kneeling by her side. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waukee with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Debbie was born on May 24, 1948 in Richmond, Virginia to Jesse and Virginia (Headley) Casey. After graduating from Northumberland High School, Debbie went onto receive her Registered Nursing degree from Petersburg Virginia Nursing School. Upon receiving her degree, Debbie had the pleasure of working in the Labor and Delivery and NICU. She loved babies and had the honor of assisting her friends over the years. Debbie met the love of her life, Thomas, and on December 21, 1968 they were united in marriage and together raised two daughters. She loved nature and enjoyed going for rides with Tom and seeing the sights. Debbie loved cats, and could always be seen with one on her lap. She had a true passion for music, from singing in the church choirs and riverboats, playing the piano and organ, to her love of Neil Diamond. Debbie was known as a kind, gentle, soul that went above and beyond to help and serve others, whether it was knitting and crocheting baby blankets, or making meals. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, birdwatching, scrapbooking, tracing family history, and watching BBC shows.
Left to cherish her memory, is her husband of 50 years, Tom; daughters, Crista (Ted) LeNeave of Waukee, Susan (Kevin) Dixon of Ankeny; grandchildren, Morgan, Mckenna, and Adeline Dixon, and Wes, Sevey, and Mason LeNeave; mother, Virginia Casey of Village, Virginia; and sister, Sandra Burbank of West Lafayette, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Casey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed too the Humanitarian Aide Fund.
