Darlene King, 85, of Ankeny passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2016. Darlene was born on January 13, 1931 to George and Glennola Stanton in Nodaway, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. She married James King in 1949 and they raised three children together.
Darlene stayed home with her children for several years and then worked for Pioneer. Besides being a wonderful mother, she loved every minute of being a grandma and a great grandma, known as GG.
She is survived by her loving family including sister, Pauline Bennett of Norwalk; daughters, Debbie Leo of Ankeny and Karen (Kevin) Knape of Des Moines; son, Steven (Sylvia) King of Flagstaff, AZ; grandchildren, Scott Hammonds of Ankeny, Jama Hughes of Des Moines, Emily (Giles) Hash of Lakewood, CO, Desiree (Brandon) Comstock of Urbandale, and Molly King of San Diego, CA; great-grandchildren, Manny and Mili Hammonds, Kaden, Devyn, and Jada Hughes, Corwin and Cecilia Comstock, Owen Zion and two more babies on the way.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, sons-in-law Ron Wege and Mike Leo; brothers George and Chuck Stanton.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLaren’s Chapel. Services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
