Cyril "Pat" Patrick Duff

Cyril Patrick “Pat” Duff, 89, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023 at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines. Visitation will be Monday, June 26 from 10:00-11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass, both at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Pat was born in Des Moines on March 15, 1934 to Cyril and Leona (Hammond) Duff. A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Pat was an alumnus of Holy Trinity grade school and Dowling Catholic High School. After high school, he attended Creighton University in Omaha, where he played baseball.

During his service in the United States Coast Guard, he married Nancy Lauro in Manhattan, New York. After his Coast Guard service, Pat and Nancy made their home in Des Moines. He was employed at Meredith Printing/RR Donnelley.

Pat enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, gardening, rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with his family.

Pat is survived by four children, Mark (Kathy) Duff of Springfield, OR., Linda (Steve) Salato of Urbandale, Patty Stump of Clive and John (Darcy) Duff of Waukee; grandchildren, Jessica Duff, Jonathan Duff, Angela Salato, Michael Salato, David Boots, Ryan Stump, Nate Stump, Kayla Duff and Lauren Duff; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb Boots, Hailey Boots and Kaden Boots.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; parents, Cyril and Leona; daughter, Cathie Boots; brothers, Mike and Jerry; and a cousin, Ruth Donnelly who was like a sister to Pat.

Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or St. Theresa Catholic Church.
