Christine Gae Moreno, 78, passed away December 9, 2024. A memorial mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until mass. A private family entombment will be at a later date at Resthaven Mausoleum.
Christine was born July 21, 1946 in Atlantic, IA to Rex and Neva (Gibson) Schneider. She lived in Atlantic with her three siblings, Pat Mills, Barbara Dil, and Kevin Schneider. She married Gerald Oppold Sr. and while living in Atlantic, they raised three children, Gerald Oppold Jr. (Onie), Karen Oppold, and Anna Marie Forbus (Dale). They later divorced and moved to West Des Moines where she married Wayne Shoafstall Sr. with whom she had one child, Wayne Shoafstall Jr. (Jennifer). After Wayne’s passing she married Jesse Moreno with whom she had five children, Christina Petro, Michael Moreno (Deborah), Christopher Moreno (Michelle), Jesse Moreno Jr., and Conchita Moreno.
Christine spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother to her nine children. It wasn’t until later in life when she earned her G.E.D. and went to college at NEC where she earned her associates in electronic engineering. Later on in life she worked at Dahl’s Bakery where she learned the art of cake decorating.
Christine is survived by her children, Gary, Anna, Wayne, Christina, Christopher, and Conchita; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wayne and Jesse; sons, Michael and Jesse Moreno; and daughter, Karen Oppold.
