Arnold M. Kilburg

Arnold M. Kilburg, 84, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 with his family at his side. A Funeral Mass will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 3, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, (1627 Grand Ave., West Des Moines) with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Arnold was born on May 17, 1929 on the family farm near Spragueville, Iowa to Peter J. and Rose Kilburg. He was a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and married Joanne Hamel on June 7, 1952.

He started his career with A.Y. McDonalds, worked for Waldingers for many years and retired from Weitz Construction. Arnold enjoyed gardening, volunteering and was an avid reader. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanne Kilburg; his daughter, Hope (Richard) Hensley; two sons, Terry (Carol) Kilburg and Eric (Mary Anne) Kilburg; eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Hensley, Jason and Paul (Cristina) Kilburg, Angela, Monica, Daniel, and Theresa Kilburg; his sister, Mildred Driscoll; and his brother, Bob (Carol) Kilburg. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters, Agnes McCarthy, Katherine Bormann, Herbert Kilburg, Marie Schmidt, Raymond Kilburg, and Rosemary Till.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
