Zoila Evagelina (Rivera) Rodriguez, our beloved mother, died Thursday night, April 25th. "Turtle", as she was affectionately nicknamed, transitioned slowly from those who she loved to those whom she had loved, already in the company of our Lord. Zoila was always and steadfastly devoted to family, friends and her faith. She was ninety-five (95) years old when she passed peacefully, family at her side.
Zoila "Turtle", was preceded in death by her husband, First Sergeant (Ret) Samuel Rodriguez, her father and mother, Jose and Elena Rivera, her sisters, Sylvia (Henry) Guajardo, Rachael (Ciriaco) Guajardo, Mary (Homer) Salinas and a baby brother, Carlos, who died of influenza at ten months.
She is survived by daughters: Rosalinda (Art, Col. USA, Ret) Adam of Round Rock, TX; Patricia Ann (Michael, Chief, Weslaco PD, Ret) Kelly of Mercedes; Yvonne "Bonnie" Manzano (Jorge) of Weslaco; and sons: Richard (Mari) Rodriguez of Edinburg and Samuel "Sam" (Diana) Rodriguez of Lampasas. Her extended family includes eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; a younger sister, Yolanda (Albert) Guajardo resides in Weslaco.
The family and a host of grand and great-grandchildren and friends know that Zoila established her place in Heaven scarcely covered by the dash between her life's dates. Neither the dramatics of diction nor the machinations of metaphor can properly punctuate her life's story. Thus, a longer tale is available to anyone of interest. It is Zoila's Dash Between the Dates", a story to be told.
Zoila in her lucid moments, blessed each and every one of the administrative and nursing staff at Mid Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her entire family thanks you all most sincerely for your overwhelming support, care, compassion and love!
We recognize and thank the staff at Gentiva who provided detailed descriptive a priori guidance of hospice care to Zoila's family, followed with superlative responsiveness, compassion and care.
