On Thursday, August 24, 2023 we said goodbye to our beloved mother, and honored friend as she stepped into the arms of her loving, Heavenly Father.
Mrs. Yolanda Gonzales, 82, of Weslaco, Texas was predeceased by her husband, Pablo in July of 2023. Pablo and Yolanda were sweethearts; they were married for 64 years. Her years were filled with boundless love for her family and friends alike. Yolanda was known for her caring and compassionate heart. She touched the lives of everyone she met. Her laughter was unmistakable; and her joy was contagious! Her life was marked with courage; and her strength was matched only by her persevering spirit. Her legacy will live on in each of us; her values, her passion for life, and her unwavering commitment to live a Christ-filled life are indelibly marked in our lives. We cherish every moment shared, and her memory will continue to guide us.
Yolanda was born to Felix and Consuelo Guajardo in Weslaco Texas, on July 8, 1941. Yolanda is survived by her children Rolando G. Gonzales (Delia), Maricelda Cruz (Javier), Noe Gonzales (Hilda), Noel Aaron Gonzales (Marty), Leroy Gonzales (Teresa), Ricky Gonzales (Ida), 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Yolanda was preceded in death by her only brother, Rodolfo Sifuentes.
Yolanda was married to Pablo on March 3, 1959, and they began their life together in Weslaco, Texas where they started their family of six. Her husband’s work soon moved them to California which would become a second home for most of their lives. By 1977, Pablo and Yolanda moved their family back to Weslaco; calling it home for 46 years. They continued to enjoy dual residence in Texas and California until 2011 when they finally retired to Weslaco.
Yolanda loved children and always had a desire to equip and empower them for a better life. It’s no surprise she had a strong passion for being an educator. She began her career as a teacher’s assistant in Greenfield California, and later acted as the school’s Liaison because of her sympathetic spirit and great communication skills. She helped build strong relationships between the school, the families and the community. While living in Weslaco, she worked as a Community Aide. As an educator, Yolanda impacted the lives of many children; not only in the classroom but in their personal lives as well.
Yolanda was an amazing wife, mother, friend, educator and the best “mother-in-love”. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends alike.
