Rene was born August 11th, 1956 in Roma, Texas to Reymundo and Antonia (Perez) Lozano. His family soon moved to Weslaco. After graduating from Weslaco High School in 1976, Rene began his career in carpentry with his father, building homes across the Rio Grande Valley. In 1982, he met a beautiful library assistant named Gloria. They married in 1988 and had two wonderful children. The last house Rene built single-handedly was his own family’s home. He then began working for Hamilton Housing in Elsa before retiring in 2019. After retirement, he continued to pursue his passion for wood working and investing in home improvement projects.
Rene was a skilled carpenter, classic car enthusiast, and a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed listening to blues rock when he was making furniture or driving around in his treasured red Toyota Tacoma. He could build almost anything with his own two hands. He called every new idea his, “next project”. Everything he built was with love and care. Rene was compassionate, creative, and had a strong work ethic. He loved to be around his family and friends. He was easy to talk to an could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was always trying to make people smile. He never hesitated to help out a loved one in any way he could.
Rene will be dearly missed by those who loved him, but his memory will live on through his family and friends.
I won’t be far away for life goes on. So, if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear all my love around you, soft and clear.
Rene is preceded in death by his parents, Reymundo and Antonia Lozano, his brother Jose Reymundo Lozano, and his niece Esmeralda Meave Leal. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gloria Marlene Lozano, his two children Jaclyn Denise Lozano and Daniel Reymundo Lozano, his sister Julia (Juan) Meave, nephew Ernesto (Monica) Meave, and niece Margot (Daniel Witte) Meave.
