She’s preceded in death by her husband Adelio Gonzales her soul mate of 65 years and grandson Patrick James De La Garza, her parents, brother Victor Guajardo and Cristela Gonzalez.
She is survived by her daughters Patsy (Rolando) Leal, Melva (Gene) De La Garza, Thelma (Jesus) Reyes, Noemi Flores, Sandy (Joe) Vasquez, her sons Paul (Mary) Gonzales, and Carlos (Marisol) Gonzales, her sister Ninfa Flores, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Elva known as Mrs. Gonzales was a high school counselor at Edcouch-Elsa High School for 30 years. A kindergartner teacher for La Villa ISD, and Director for Edcouch-Hidalgo Head- Start. Elva’s love for education started when Edcouch-Elsa High School hired her as a secretary from 1962-1967. Elva started working in Woods-Montalvo Insurance in 1957 she also worked on several other jobs selling jewelry, Stanley, Home Interiors, taking the school census for the Edcouch-Elsa school district, and also worked for the Migrant Interstate Program traveling to Minnesota and Nebraska during the summer months.
Elva’s house was the place to be on Sunday afternoons as she organized family gatherings, holidays, celebrations,quinceaneras, and weddings. She was also interviewed by Rick Diaz Channel 5 "Con Mi Gente".
Elva enjoyed life as she traveled to many places like California, Mexico City, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Canada, Puerto Rico, and took several cruises. Elva served as a Eucharist minister for St. Theresa Catholic Church she delivered holy communion to the sick at home.
She was a lovely wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Elva was truly the backbone of the family and was an inspiration because by the age of 25 she already had seven children and managed to to raise a family, work, and educate herself. She did everything with confidence, pride, and devotion. She was truly respected and admired by the staff, parents, and the Edcouch-Elsa community. She was a great friend, mother in-law, and an individual who was always giving a helping hand.
A visitation for Elva will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel - Highland Funeral Home, 6705 North Fm 88, Weslaco, Texas 78596. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Saint Theresa Of Infant Jesus Church, located at 200 Salazar St, Edcouch, Texas 78538, followed by the interment at 11:00 AM at Highland Memorial Park.
