Juanita G Valdez

Juanita G. Valdez (83) passed away in the early morning hours of January 10, 2018. She was born in 1934 in Lynch, Kentucky to the late Victoriano and Herlinda S. Garcia. She was a coal miner’s daughter that lost her father at the age of 6 months to a tragic mining accident. At the time, her mother decided to leave the United States and returned to Mexico with her four young children to seek support of family and to earn a livelihood to support her children. Years later, strong and determined, she returned to the United States with her small family and made this county their home.

In 1956, Juanita married Ricardo Valdez and would remain a loving and devoted wife of 47 years until his passing in 2003. Together they raised five children that will honor and fulfill their legacy: Ricardo (Ruby) Valdez Jr, Irma (Raul) Rivera, Elva (Aldo) Quesada, Norma L. Valdez and Cynthia Valdez.

Juanita worked alongside her husband as a migrant farm worker for much of her life and spent many years working long hours at local produce packing companies. She humbled herself before each opportunity to provide for her family. In her later years, she loved being with her grandchildren, walking to church and stopping on the way home to buy pan dulce to enjoy with her coffee, reading her Bible in the evenings until her eyes were weary, and she was known to make time for her Mexican novelas. Her strength, resilience, compassion, and sense of humor is woven into each of her five children, 13 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. It is through their lives that her vibrancy and love will abound. She also leaves behind her Pitbull, four Chihuahuas, and the neighborhood cats that all loved her and were always by her side.

Juanita is preceded in death by all of her siblings: Eloy Garcia, Oliva G. (Jose M.+) Sanchez, and Jose (Alicia B.) Garcia. It brings the family comfort that she is now reunited with those that have gone before her and that in Heaven, memories are vividly clear again, pain is forgotten and peace is everlasting.

The family would like to thank caregivers and family friends Sylvia Chavez and Rosa Martinez for their years of dedication, love, and support.

Pallbearers include Ricardo Valdez Jr., Ricardo Valdez III, Raul Rivera, Raul Rivera Jr., Richard Alexander Valdez, Aldo Quesada, Aldo Rey Quesada Jr., and Erin Quesada.

Visitation Services for Juanita will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Highland Funeral Home , 6705 N FM 88, Weslaco , Texas 78596. Funeral service will be held at the same location in the chapel on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
