Josefina G. Peña

Josefina "Josie" G. Peña, 85, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in Edinburg Texas. On November 2, 1937, Josie was born to Alfonso Gonzalez and Josefina Aja Gonzalez. Josie was raised in the city of Edcouch Texas where she met the love of her life, Jose Ruben Peña Sr. and together formed a beautiful family raising their two sons. Josie is admired for all the love she gave and showed her family as well as her deep-rooted faith. Josie enjoyed singing church hymns to her Lord and cooking for all of her family, making her exceptional tamales. Josie was a proud Yellow Jacket even after retiring from Edcouch Elsa ISD after 30+ years of service. Josie was preceded in death by her parents Alfonso Gonzalez and Josefina Aja Gonzalez as well as her loving husband of 57 years, Jose Ruben Peña Sr. Left to cherish her memories are her two son's Jose Ruben Jr.(Ruth), Joel Peña(Diana), grandchildren Jose Ruben Peña III (Sonia), Kristy M. Peña, Joel Peña Jr. (Criselda), Rubina Flores (Joey), Valerie J. Peña (Eddie), Fabian Peña, great grandchildren Katelyn N. Sandoval, Jo-Lyssa Peña, Jose D. Chapa, Abram Torres, Emily Torres, Carolina J.Peña, Joel Peña III, Evelyn Torres, Jose Ruben Peña IV, Josiah Peña, Christian Peña, Daniel J. Castañeda, Emarie L. Flores, her only brother David Gonzalez, and her sisters Evangelina Marmolejo (Terry Lunsford), Esmelda Bruce (Delray), Elma Cortines (Arturo), Ruth Farias (Lupe), Liz Rios, Esther Cerda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel-Highland Funeral Home Weslaco TX, Sunday January 8th, 2023 from 1:00pm-11:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm followed by a burial services at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco TX, Monday, January 9th, 2023 at 2:00pm.
