Jose “Joey” Angel Elissetche Jr., age 30, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024 after a short and courageous battle with a rare form of liver cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, in Weslaco Texas in the arms of his wife, surrounded by his loving mom and sisters.
Joey was born to Jose Angel Elissetche Sr. and Delia Lopez on May 27, 1994 in Harlingen, Texas. He graduated from Lockhart High School in Lockhart, Texas on 2013 and went on to graduate from Texas A&M Corpus Christi with a degree in Criminal Justice and a degree in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch. Based on his own personal journey, Joey had a passion and love for the health, fitness, and wellness industry which led to him a rewarding and fulfilling career. In 2021, Joey became Managing Partner for Crunch Fitness in Waco, Texas where he met the love of his life, Maya Rangel, whom he finally wed on October 10, 2024. He soon relocated back to his hometown of the Rio Grande Valley area to become President of 5A Fitness, overseeing a few OrangeTheory studios, Smoothie Kings, and a yoga studio. As with most true Texans, Joey was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns fan.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Maya Rangel-Elissetche; parents, Delia & Carlos Lopez, Jose Sr. and Lupita Elissetche; sisters, Emily & Isela Lopez, and Elva Elissetche; brothers, Angel, Abraham, and Jose Mariano Elissetche; grandparents, Roberto & Elva Elissetche and Vicente & Susana Trevino; his Waco, Texas family - Roderick & Selma Birks, Joe Rangel, Madison Rangel, Yasmyn & Antonio Carrillo, Ken’Dria Birks, Camille Jones; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and lastly, his faithful companion, Charlie.
Visitation and Rosary Services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 7:00pm with Funeral services on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 10am at Funeraria del Angel Highland in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Pallbearers will be Jose Elissetche Sr., Carlos Lopez, Angel Elissetche, Abraham Elissetche, Marcelo Arredondo, Carlos Calviillo, and Eduardo Ortiz
