Robert Joseph Chiasson, Sr., 87, a native of Crowley and resident of Welsh was entrusted to God’s loving care on Sunday, December 27, 2015 in Jennings. Robert was a retired Bookkeeper and Veteran of the United States Navy having served aboard the USS Shangri La. Robert was Catholic by faith and a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.
He was honored to be a 3rd and 4th degree Knight of Columbus, a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Usher Society. Robert enjoyed and held many more memberships including the East Deanery Serra Club, the Order of St. Gregory, Companion of Honor Society, and Order of the Fleur de’ Lis. He received the Devoted Service Medal for Parishioner of the Year and was the very first recipient of the Herman L. Berken Lifetime of Service Award.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years; Hilda Leleux Chiasson; sons: Robert J. Chiasson, Jr. & wife Kim and Mark S. Chiasson & wife Melanie; daughters: Cynthia C. Ardoin and Beth C. Parker & husband Tim; brother: Larry Chiasson & wife Katie. Robert was blessed 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents: Rousseau Chiasson and Lillian Miers Chiasson; brothers: Donald and Johnny Chiasson; sister: Elaine Arceneaux.
Visitation will commence at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the Rosary Recital at 6:00 p.m. The visitation will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. procession time. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday with Father Alan Trouille as Celebrant.
