On the morning of September 28, 2013 at 7:40 a.m., our Heavenly Father appeared before Ralph. Ralph looked up and said “Attention!” and with his right hand he saluted our heavenly father. God spoke to him and said, “Sergeant Ralph Hill, your war here on earth is over. Your orders have come in. You are being transferred.” He was being transferred to the beautiful home promised to him by God, where there are no more wars to fight and all the battles are good ones.
His going home services will be Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh La. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. 12:15 p.m. Pre-service will begin at 12:15 until 1:00 p.m. at which time the home going services will begin. Burial will be at Eastridge Cemetery in Welsh, La.
Ralph Edward Hill was born on August 23, 1940 to the late Roosevelt and Mary Means Hill in Bessemer, Alabama. He was the fourth child of seven. He accepted Christ at an early age. He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1958. After graduation he joined the Army where he served his country for 21 years. In April of 2006, Ralph returned to Welsh where he lived until he was called home.
Ralph married Betty Christopher. Unto this union one son was born. He then married Kay Lemell Hill. Four daughters were born of this union.
Ralph was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his health failed him. He was a Mason with Lone Star Chapter 131. He was loved by many in the Town of Welsh. He enjoyed working in and for the community. He loved to cook and bar-b-que. Anytime there was a death in the family or community, he saw to it that the crew was together to cook. He was a big fan of WHS football. He was a member of Bethune-Richmond Parks LLD. After retirement, he worked for George Theriot, Welsh Police Department, Preferred Living and Turner Industries.
He leaves to celebrate and cherish his memories (5) children: Daughters, Rosalind K. Hill of Lake Charles, La.; Rosa (David) Castille of Missouri City, TX, Rafaella Hill and Rakisha Hill (Johnny Bias) of Welsh, La., and his foster daughter Angel Simon of Roanoke, La. (12) Grands- three of which he raised as his own – Rakeitha Alfred and Kylin Hill of Welsh, La. and Eshonna Volair of Lake Charles, La. Brian Alfred Jr., Edwynn Achan (Rianna Rideaux), Kennon and Kerric Thompson, Joel Castille Jr., E’Terris and Armanti Brown, Gerald Hill Jr. (Shawn) and Victoria Canton. (11) Great-grands – Mykel, Datavia, Derrick, Kyvorian, Kylah, Elijah, Valorie, Caroline, Kobe, Lilli’ana and Gerald III. (5) sisters, Loretta Webber of Charlotte, N.C., Dorothy Horton and Marion Perdue of Birmingham, Al., Rosalind Hayes(Orby Taylor) of Kennesaw, Ga. and Cynthia Satterwhite of Birmingham, Al. (2) brothers, Robert Earl (Bobbie) Hill of Adger, Al. and Ronald Hill of Birmingham, Al. His mother-in-law, Clara Lemell of Welsh, La. (3) nephews whom he helped raise- Ronnie, Ravey and Reger Curry and Michael Hill and (4) special in-laws, Earl (Mary) Lemell of Lake Charles, La., Ruth (Willie) Bolin of Los Angeles, Ca., Jacqueline (Rolland) Pitre of Welsh, La. and Joseph Lemell of Port Arthur, Tx. Godchildren, Shelby Celestine, Joseph Mitchell Jr., LaRon Vicker, Kelina Achane and Tisha Smiley. Special friends Lynn Joseph, Eddie Achan, David Vital, Patrick Vital and Samuel Randolph.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roosevelt and Mary Hill, one brother Roosevelt Jr. and two brothers –in-law, Spurgeon Webber and James Satterwhite.
