Milton was a carpenter by trade and Veteran of the United States Navy having served in WWII, Battle of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Occupation of Japan. He was a master fiddler/musician having been inducted in the Cajun French Music Association Hall of Fame in 2006. Milton was catholic by faith and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. At the age of 95, he recorded, after great demand a CD “Un Souvenir de Milton Vanicor” which held numerous nominations for recognition. Milton shared his God-given talent by performing for various organizations, nursing facilities, festivals, schools, and private functions. He truly enjoyed contributing to Cajun music and his beloved French culture.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jeanette Aguillard (Harry), Lake Charles, Linda Marcantel (James), Kinder; sons, Joe Ray Vanicor (Bonnie), and Glenn Vanicor (Denise), both of Welsh, a brother, Ellis Vanicor, Lacassine, and a sister, Cecile Leger, Church Point. He is also survived by 10 Grandchildren, 18 Great- Grandchildren, and 10 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife, Odile Bellard Vanicor, his parents, Jules Vanicor and Hermina Thibodeaux Vanicor, brothers, Clarence, Nute, Ivy, Preston, a sister, Rena LeJeune, a grandson, Kenneth Scott Vanicor, and 1 Great-grandson, Reed Marshall Vanicor
Visitation will commence at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. The visitation will continue on Monday, June 8, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until procession time 1:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, in Welsh with Father Alan Trouille as celebrant. The Committal will follow at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery.
